Melanie Jayne Lynskey
Melanie Jayne Lynskey (born 16 May 1977)
is an New Zealand actress. She is well-known for humorous, soft-spoken, yet
powerful characters. She works mostly in films that are independent. Her
achievements include her winning a New Zealand Film Award, and a Hollywood Film
Award and a Sundance Special Jury Award, in addition to Gotham Award, Golden
Nymph Award, Critics' Choice Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.
Her film debut was a teenage killer in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures
(1994). After her move to the United States, Lynskey built her career as an
supporting actor in numerous small- and big-budget features including Ever
After (1998), Detroit Rock City, But... (both 1999), Coyote Ugly (2000) and
Sweet Home Alabama (both 2002) Shattered Glass (2003), Flags of Our Fathers
(2006) and Away We Go!, Up in the Air!, Leaves of Grass (2009), Win Win (2011)
and Seeking a Wallflower (both 2014) and They Came Together (2014) and Don't
turn your back (2021). Lynskey received a nomination for the Gotham Award as
Breakthrough Performer and was awarded acclaim by critics for her performance
as a depressed divorcée in Hello I Must be Going (2012). It was a turning point
in her career. Her subsequent lead roles included Happy Christmas and We'll
Never Have Paris (all 2014), The Intervention (all 2016), Rainbow Time, Little
Boxes, I Don't Feel At Home in This World Anymore (both 2017), Lady of the
Manor (2021), Sadie (2018) Sadie (2018) as well as Lady of the Manor (both
2018) made her an important player in the American independent film community.
Lynskey's character of Rose in CBS' sitcom Two and a Half Men (1903-2015) was a
huge hit. She was the star of Togetherness from 2015-2016, and she was
nominated by the Critics Choice Television Awards as the best Supporting
Actress. Megan and Beatrice were her voices for Cartoon Network's Over the
Garden Wall (2014). (2016-2018). She starred in Molly Strand's first season of
Hulu (2018) as well as Rosemary Thomson was her role in Mrs. America (2020).
