Maureen O'Hara Biography
Maureen O'Hara is a famous American performer and actress and songwriter, both of Irish descent. The green-eyed beauty sporting flaming red locks was well-known for her passionate and fiery parts in numerous American films. Her beauty and elegance were awe-inspiring. Also, she was known as the 'Queen of Technicolor in Hollywood. The characters she played on screen reflected her strong, brave spirit that struggled to survive and gain recognition in a male-dominated society. She referred to herself as "the tough Irish woman" and she would not be willing to sacrifice respect for others in order to secure the roles that she was entitled to by merit. Throughout her career in the film industry, she always stood up against unfair treatment and discrimination towards women actors, and for this, she earned a lot of followers. The autobiography of her, 'Tis herself which was published in 2004, provided a candid and truthful description of her life experiences including her struggle to climb the ladder to achieve success. She was an adventurous person who didn't fear doing her own stunts. In the course of her career, she starred in more than 60 films, and gained a lot of popularity throughout the world. After leaving Parra, she remarried again in the year 1968 to Charles F. Blair Jr. who was a former brigadier and chief pilot and an early pioneer in transatlantic air travel, to mention some of the accomplishments. Within a couple of years of their marriage, O'Hara decided to retire. The joy she felt was only temporary when Blair was killed in a fatal plane crash in 1978. She was also diagnosed with uterine cancer in the same year. She was treated for it and then had an immediate procedure. She recovered eventually. Over the next few years, her health deteriorated and she experienced six heart attacks, memory loss in the short term and diabetes mellitus type 2. O'Hara, who was 95, passed away peacefully in Boise on October 24, 2015.
