Jennifer Leann Carpenter (born December 7 1979) is an American actress from the United States. She is famous for her portrayal of Debra Morgan on Showtime's Dexter. She also received a Saturn Award for that show in 2009. Also she is famous for her role in the show Limitless, which featured Rebecca Harris. In 2019, she began playing Erica Shepherd, the lead character in the NBC drama The Enemy Within. Carpenter's role in The Exorcism of Emily Rose attracted the most attention. Carpenter was awarded the 2006 MTV Movie Award "Best Frightened Performance" and an Hollywood Life Breakthrough Award. The actress was named "Breakout Performer" at the 2006 Scream Awards. In 2007, she began dating her Dexter co-star Michael C. Hall. They were married in California on New Year's Day 2008. In December 2010, Hall and Carpenter released an announcement that they filed for divorce after being separated "for some time".The divorce was approved in December 2011, due to inconvenient differences, However, they remain very close friends. Carpenter and Seth Avett became engaged on February 10, 2015. It was revealed in August 2015 that Carpenter gave birth to a boy in May 2015. Carpenter also admitted she was eight-and a half months pregnant when she began filming Limitless' pilot episode. Carpenter and Avett got married in May of 2016.
